Essen, 9th February 2007 - On the occasion of today's G7 meeting of Finance Ministers in Essen, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) demand binding plans to finance development aid and fight HIV/AIDS as well as a remission of debt for the poorest developing countries. In a joint action, the "Aktionsbündnis gegen AIDS" (Action against AIDS Germany), the campaign "Deine Stimme gegen Armut" (Your voice against poverty; Global Call to Action against Poverty Germany) and the "erlassjahr.de" (German Jubilee network; alliance for debt relief), criticise the G7/G8 group of states for having done too little so far to implement the programme on poverty alleviation that they announced in 2005.
